This is the last weekend I’m spending alone in my current city. My ex-husband had asked me if we could meet one last time so that he might say goodbye to the dog.

Confronting the Past and Retreating

Home Sweet Houston

Houston will always be my home.  The more I remember it, the more my heart desires to be there.  The more times I return to visit, the harder it is to leave.

Not Left Alone

Another few days, another few boxes I’ve sorted through.  I’ve made this important self-discovery, though.  In one of my old boxes, I had old letters and emails from previous boyfriends.  I’m not sure why I kept them–I guess I had forgotten that I had them.  I read through a couple of them before I put them in my “recycle” waste pile.  I had kept everything, too–from the sweet, courting letters to the awful, heartbreaking ones.   Then it dawned on me about just how much I’ve grown up this last year. Rummaging

I am exhausted.  My old house is no longer mine.  All that was in it is now crammed into my smaller two-bedroom apartment.  Dozens of friends have helped and the depth of my gratitude will have to be expressed once I have slept.

Among many of the items that were in the attic of my house were boxes that contained belongings of my late aunt, grandfather and grandmother.  Read the rest of this entry »
