Good Friday and Divine Mercy

I never seem to remember how forlorn I feel when I see the altar stripped of Christ’s presence each Good Friday. It’s stunning how the visual of its nakedness really hits home about the gravity of the day.

At the Stations of the Cross today, I kept trying to put myself in the shoes of those who witnessed the Passion.  And then at the thirteenth station (Jesus is taken down from the Cross), I could only imagine how Mary felt receiving her Son’s body.  The Pieta is such a powerful image!  Words could not be written in our language that express how a mother feels when she beholds the dead body of her child!

After the Stations, I began the Divine Mercy Novena.  In Sister Faustina’s vision of Christ, He revealed to her how most agonizing was the sin of apathy to Him in the Garden of Gethsemane. . . such that their apathy and indifference inspired his words, “Father, let this cup pass from me. . . ”  I could only pray that when my time comes, I pass graciously on the Feast of Divine Mercy!
