Trials, Trials, Trials

It’s downright criminal how difficult it is to avoid sin.  I feel like the harder I try to avoid it, the more tempting it becomes.  I wish I could learn my lesson from this and move on.  I’m trying to see the big picture.  I’m trying to remind myself that I deserve so much more than what sin will offer me.  I’m trying to remind myself that I am loved and missed. “Be Happy, I’m Happy”

I was reading up on the upcoming beatification of Chiara-Luce Badano, a young girl who died of bone cancer in 1990.  She was so devout and so full of life, it’s hard even today not to be inspired by her.  She would often repeat during her pain and illness, “If this is what you want, Jesus, then so do I.”   And as she was dying, her last words to her mother were, “be happy, for I’m happy.”

If Your Right Eye Offends

If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna.

And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of
your members than to have your whole body go into Gehenna.  (Matt. 5:29-30)

Red Letter Week

I had a blast celebrating my birthday in Houston this week.  On top of that, I have  buyer for my home.  It feels like a 50-ton piece of lead has been lifted.   Even the inspection yielded only two items to repair and both are relatively inexpensive at that, too.   Read the rest of this entry »

Why Do You Seek the Living One Among the Dead?

Oh Happy Resurrection!

This Easter Vigil was the greatest of all the Masses in the year!  Having gone through the motions of being brought into communion with the Church, I make it a point to attend the Vigil, when all the new candidates are baptized, confirmed and communed.  It always renews my vigor for my faith.

In my heart, though, I carry the thoughts of my dear friend and sponsor into the Church.  He doubts now and questions even the existence of God.  We joke lightly when we chat with each other–that he forfeited his faith to me and I forfeited my atheism to him when I converted.  Read the rest of this entry »
